Platform builds on four years of progress with new commitments on public safety, affordability, infrastructure, parks and schools
VANCOUVER, September 21, 2026 — ABC Vancouver today launched “Let’s Keep Vancouver Moving Forward,” its 2026 policy platform for City Council, Park Board, and School Board. The platform is built on three core commitments: Public Safety & Addressing Street Disorder, Affordability & Accountability at City Hall, and Jobs & Economy.
It is being delivered citywide through a pair of investment initiatives:
- Restoring Vancouver, a plan to rebuild the city’s infrastructure and make City Hall work faster for residents and businesses.
- Raising Vancouver, designed by parents who are running for ABC (20 out of 24 candidates are moms and dads). This family-focused policy plan will be launched on Monday, September 28.
Restoring Vancouver includes a $400 million investment in community centres across the city, already approved as part of Vancouver’s 2027 to 2030 Capital Plan, with priority renewal identified at the Dunbar, Kerrisdale, Hastings, Roundhouse, and Kensington centres. The plan also delivers the long-awaited River District Community Centre, invests $104 million in roads and sidewalks, and continues work to make City Hall permitting faster and operations leaner.
“Over the last four years, we have delivered steady progress and responsible leadership,” said Vancouver Mayor Ken Sim. “We invested in public safety, protected core services while holding property tax increases at zero per cent, and made record investments in the roads, sidewalks and infrastructure Vancouverites rely on. We strengthened the local economy, cut red tape, expanded opportunities for families and put Vancouver back on the world stage through events such as the FIFA World Cup. We are proud of our progress, but there is more to do. Our focus is clear: keep Vancouver moving forward.”
The 2026 platform’s three anchor commitments include:
- Public Safety & Addressing Street Disorder. Banning open-air hard drug use in public spaces, giving police streamlined tools to seize hard drugs, and creating more involuntary care beds.
- Affordability & Accountability at City Hall. A zero per cent property tax increase in 2027, free residential permit parking, and the removal of pay parking at parks and community centres.
- Jobs & Economy. Rebuilding the Vancouver Aquatic Centre, revitalizing Granville Street, and scaling Vancouver as a hub for technology companies.
ABC Vancouver will announce the second half of its platform, Raising Vancouver, on Monday, September 28. Details of the announcement, including timing and location, will be provided to the media in advance through a media advisory.
The School Board component of the platform is making three practical commitments to Vancouver children and families.
- To work with the Park Board to bring swimming lessons into the school day so every child has the opportunity to become water-safe.
- To fight for more educational assistants and specialized support staff, giving teachers more help and students more individual support.
- To ensure provincial school taxes collected in Vancouver are invested in Vancouver schools.
The Park Board component of the platform, meanwhile, will permanently repair the Stanley Park Train and continue investing in the parks, playgrounds, pools, rinks and recreation facilities Vancouver families rely on.
ABC Vancouver will also remove paid parking at destinations including Jericho Beach and Spanish Banks, as well as at community centres, making it more affordable for families to use public amenities. The Park Board will work collaboratively with City Council and the School Board, ending silos and focusing all three bodies on making Vancouver work better for residents.
ABC Vancouver’s team reflects the city it serves. Collectively, the ABC teams speak Cantonese, English, Farsi, French, Greek, Hindi, Mandarin, Portuguese, Punjabi, Spanish, Tagalog and Urdu.
