Mayor Ken Sim Announces Re-Election Bid, Vows to Keep Fighting for Vancouver

Vancouver, BC – Mayor Ken Sim announced today his intention to seek re- election with the release of a new video that reflects his roots in Vancouver, his commitment to public service, and the progress made under his leadership.

In the video, Mayor Sim reflects on growing up in South Vancouver as the son of immigrants who arrived from Hong Kong in 1967 with little more than hope for a better future for their family.

“Like so many Vancouverites, my story is one of hard work, grit, and uncertainty,” says Mayor Ken Sim. “It’s why I ran for Mayor in the first place, to fight for Vancouver.”

Mayor Sim also spoke candidly about the challenges of governing and the need for leadership rooted in accountability and continuous improvement.

“I haven’t gotten everything right,” Sim said. “But leadership isn’t about getting everything right from day one, it’s about learning, adjusting, and delivering.”

Since taking office, Mayor Ken Sim and the ABC Vancouver team have focused on restoring public safety, improving affordability and delivering core services. “Our city has to work for families, renters, seniors, and small businesses again,” Sim said.

Under Mayor Ken Sim’s leadership, Vancouver has recorded its lowest violent crime rate in 23 years. City Hall has also taken steps to improve affordability for residents, including freezing property tax increases and refocusing city priorities on core services and community infrastructure.

Mayor Ken Sim emphasized that his decision to run again is driven by a desire to build on that momentum, not to protect the status quo, but to continue delivering meaningful change for Vancouver.

“We’ve made real progress, but there’s still more work to do. That’s why I’m running for re-election as your mayor. I never ran to protect the status quo. I ran to fight for Vancouver. We’ve started building a better city, and the best is yet to come.”
