For Immediate Release June 24, 2024 VANCOUVER, BC – Earlier this evening, Vancouver Park Board voted to support a staff report on the future of Moberly Park. ABC Vancouver commissioners Jas Virdi, Angela Haer, and Marie-Claire Howard all voted to support the report. Under the newly-approved staff report, Moberly Park will see the installation of a new turf field, walking track, spray park, field house, and washrooms. “Today’s decision is the start of a better future for Southeast Vancouver,” said Virdi. “Upgrades to Moberly Park mean that the community will finally have a top-tier park space, similar to many other neighbourhoods across our city.” The public support for the proposed changes has been overwhelming. Following a call put out by ABC Vancouver, over 60 community members came out to speak at the June 24th Park Board meeting in favour of the report. “The response to this proposal has been loud and clear,” said Haer. “Southeast Vancouver wants to see these improvements and we’re honoured to stand behind them.” In the 2022 election, ABC Vancouver committed to addressing longtime underinvestment in neighbourhoods such as Southeast Vancouver. Today’s decision marks ABC’s latest step towards fixing those historic gaps. “Residents in every Vancouver neighbourhood deserve access to world-class parks and recreational facilities,” said Howard, “ABC is proud to be making good on our commitment to supporting traditionally underrepresented neighbourhoods.” Vancouver City Council has already allocated $10M in funding to support improvements. – 30 – MEDIA CONTACT: |
