Rob Nijjar is running for Vancouver School Board Trustee with ABC Vancouver.

Rob brings governing experience to his role as a candidate, having previously served as an MLA for Vancouver-Kingsway, as an executive assistant to a Vancouver MP, and as assistant to the Leader of the Official Opposition of BC. Rob now works as Executive Director of the Sunset on Fraser Business Association and runs a business development firm, helping organizations with restructuring, board management, and financial planning.

Rob has extensive experience working with both public and private sector organizations. In these roles, he has held responsibilities for community outreach, board oversight, and large-scale budget management. These skills will translate well into Rob’s role as a Vancouver School Board trustee if elected.

As an elected official, Rob was co-chair of the Legislative Standing Committee for Education, Chair of the Education Committee on Youth Employment, and the Chair of the Government Caucus Committee on the Economy.

Outside of his professional work, Rob has served on the Employment and Assistance Appeal Tribunal of BC, the Vancouver Planning Commission, BC Transplant Society Community Outreach, Rotary Club of Vancouver East, Rotary Club of Vancouver Fraserview, Coach of West Vancouver Women’s Field Hockey Team, and the Disciplinary Chair of the Vancouver Men’s Field Hockey League.

Rob is a born and raised Vancouverite and a single father, having brought up his daughter in the public school system.

Rob is running because he believes every student deserves a safe, supportive, and high-quality education. As a lifelong Vancouver resident, parent, and longtime community leader, Rob brings firsthand experience with the public education system and a commitment to ensuring schools are focused on student success, supporting educators, and serving families across Vancouver.

Rob holds a Bachelor in General Studies and an MBA. Through decades of work and volunteerism, Rob was a recipient of the Queen Elizabeth Golden Jubliee Medal in 2002 and the King Charles Coronation Medal in 2023.
