Lina Vargas
Vancouver School Board Trustee Candidate
Lina Vargas is running for Vancouver School Board Trustee with ABC Vancouver.
Lina is a lifelong learner and a dedicated community leader. Her career has taken her from working as a midwife and aesthetician to her current work as a businesswoman and social services worker. She brings a diverse professional background and a deep commitment to helping people and strengthening communities.
As a mother who raised a child with special needs, Lina understands first-hand the importance of safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environments. She believes every student deserves to feel welcomed, respected, and able to succeed, and every teacher deserves the resources and support needed to meet the diverse needs of their classrooms.
Lina is the founding president of the Diversity and Inclusion Support Group of B.C. (DISG), a non-profit organization that celebrates the contributions of migrants, healthcare workers, caregivers, community volunteers, community leaders, and people from diverse backgrounds. Through DISG, she has worked to build bridges of understanding among Vancouver’s diverse communities.
DISG has also partnered with Canadian Blood Services for many years to support blood donation campaigns and help people in urgent need.
Lina believes strong schools are built on positive and respectful relationships among families, students, teachers, and staff. As a School Board Trustee, she will bring her experience as a parent, community leader, and advocate for inclusion to the Vancouver School District.
