Former VPD spokesperson Brian Montague to run for Vancouver City Council with ABC

VANCOUVER — ABC Vancouver today announced that former VPD officer Brian Montague had been nominated as ABC’s sixth candidate for Vancouver City Council.

“I’m running because I’m disappointed with the direction our city is headed in,” said Montague. “Ken Sim and ABC Vancouver offer the only viable alternative to Kennedy Stewart.”

Montague served as a member of the Vancouver Police Department for over 28 years, working in various roles including a five year stint as VPD spokesperson from 2012 to 2017. He expressed concern over the increase in crime and public disorder during the last few years.

“Over the last four years, we’ve seen a significant decline in our city; the cost of housing has gone up by 30%, robberies are up by 21%, and serious assaults are up by 36%,” continued Montague. “Residents are struggling and people aren’t getting the services or support they need. We can, and must do better than this.”

Montague was born and raised in Vancouver, he grew up attending Jamieson Elementary, Churchill Secondary and Langara College. He is married with two teenage daughters.

“I’ve dedicated my life to making Vancouver a better place – I want my daughters to see a future for themselves here,” continued Montague. “To do that, we need to revitalize neighbourhoods, build liveable communities and ensure our city is a clean, safe, and welcoming place for all who call it home.”

ABC Vancouver has previously nominated six candidates for the 2022 municipal election: Ken Sim for Mayor, operations engineer Lenny Zhou, former journalist Peter Meiszner, and incumbent City Councillors Rebecca Bligh, Lisa Dominato, and Sarah Kirby-Yung for Council. Vancouver municipal elections will be held on October 15th, 2022.
