ABC becomes first party in Vancouver to release full election platform

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

September 29, 2022

VANCOUVER — ABC Vancouver announced their full platform today, the first of any party in the 2022 municipal election to do so.

“With only a few days to go before voting opens, it’s important to know where candidates and parties stand on the important issues facing the future of our city,” said Ken Sim, ABC Vancouver Mayoral candidate. “The ‘ABC Plan for A Better City’ is by far the most comprehensive and in-depth set of policies being offered by any party in this election.”

Among the 94 platform points is ABC’s housing strategy, led by a pledge to implement a ‘3 3 3 1 plan’ to tackle the City’s backlogged permitting and approvals process. The plan involves guaranteeing approval wait times of three days for home renovations and accessibility upgrades, three weeks for townhomes, duplexes, single-family homes, and laneway houses, three months for professionally designed multi-family and midrise projects, and one year for high-rise or large scale projects

“Right now in the City of Vancouver, it can take more time to build a housing project than it took to fight World War II,” continued Sim. “If we can’t get permitting under control, housing will never be affordable.”

Sim encouraged voters to read the party’s platform and emphasized that the best way to see the policies implemented was to vote for every single ABC candidate.

“The ABC Plan for a Better City offers real, in-depth solutions to address the housing crisis, the rise in crime, and longstanding issues around good government,” concluded Sim. “The only way to see these plans become reality is by voting for all ABC candidates running for Council, Park, and School Board.”

Some key points of the ABC Plan for a Better City include:

  • Implement a 3 3 3 1 strategy to address the City’s permitting
  • Focus on a quality-first approach toward social and supportive housing
  • Hire 100 new police officers and 100 mental health nurses
  • Build a 24-hour low-barrier recovery centre
  • Make Vancouver the most accessible city in the world
  • Deliver 5000 daycare spaces
