ABC Vancouver today announced that it will accept cryptocurrency donations

“We are proud to announce that ABC Vancouver’s proposal to accept cryptocurrency-based donations has been approved by Elections BC” said Corey Sue, the Financial Agent for ABC Vancouver. “As of today, supporters can donate to ABC via cryptocurrency in a manner that is safe, transparent, and fully compliant with all legislation in British Columbia.”

“All donors, regardless of donation method will be required to provide their full name and residential address.” continued Sue “Donors must be a resident of British Columbia, and must be either a Canadian citizen or permanent resident.”

ABC will be among the first political parties in Canada to accept cryptocurrency donations.

“We want to demonstrate our commitment to technology both in terms of embracing it to help improve service at City Hall and to promote Vancouver as a tech centre,” said Ken Sim, mayoral candidate for ABC Vancouver. “We want to send a clear and strong message that our campaign is embracing the future.”

“Vancouver is a leader in emerging technology, Web 3.0 offers a once in a generation opportunity to both transform Vancouver’s economy and identify innovative ways to provide services in a more efficient, cost-effective manner,” concluded Sim. “Whether it’s automating applications processes, or using AI to optimize city planning, we need to use technology to remain ahead of the curve.”

ABC Vancouver, so far, has nominated four candidates for the 2022 municipal election: Ken Sim for Mayor and incumbent City Councillors Rebecca Bligh, Lisa Dominato, and Sarah Kirby-Yung for Council. Vancouver municipal elections will be held on October 15th, 2022.
