March 27, 2025 – Vancouver, BC – ABC Vancouver city council candidates Jaime Stein and Ralph Kaisers are announcing a bold commitment today to deliver a new 50-metre pool and enhanced neighbourhood amenities in South Vancouver to meet the needs of local families.
“We’ve heard one consistent message from residents in South Vancouver – their infrastructure is not keeping up with the needs of the community. There’s no pool on the south slope, playgrounds are old, residents have to travel to access turf fields. It’s time that changes. If we have the privilege to serve as your councillors, we will deliver a new pool in South Vancouver so that families, young and old, can continue to thrive in our city,” says Jaime Stein, ABC Vancouver candidate for city council.
“The bottom line is, Vancouver needs a competitive sized pool – so, let’s make it a reality in South Vancouver. Over the past few weeks, we’ve spoken with thousands of residents in Vancouver. The message from families has been clear: they want more recreational facilities and outdoor spaces for walking, playing and enjoying their community. ABC Vancouver has already approved a bold plan for Moberly Park that includes a new turf field, walking track, spray park and field house. We need to build on that progress and deliver additional amenities to support the growing South Vancouver community,” says Ralph Kaisers, ABC Vancouver candidate for city council.
Last month, Stein and Kaisers joined the fight to protect Vancouver’s swim clubs by urging the Vancouver Park Board to keep its promise to build a 50-metre pool in the new facility being built at Sunset Beach Park. This week it was announced that Park Board staff will be recommending the pool be downsized to 25-metres, which will reduce capacity, limit community programming and force competitive swimmers to train elsewhere.
Stein and Kaisers see this latest decision as a great chance to reconnect with the community and explore how to better meet the needs of pool users in Vancouver.Media Contact
