June 24, 2024<\/p>

VANCOUVER, BC \u2013 Earlier this evening, Vancouver Park Board voted to support a staff report on the future of Moberly Park. ABC Vancouver commissioners Jas Virdi, Angela Haer, and Marie-Claire Howard all voted to support the report.<\/p>

Under the newly-approved staff report, Moberly Park will see the installation of a new turf field, walking track, spray park, field house, and washrooms.<\/p>

\u201cToday\u2019s decision is the start of a better future for Southeast Vancouver,\u201d said Virdi. \u201cUpgrades to Moberly Park mean that the community will finally have a top-tier park space, similar to many other neighbourhoods across our city.\u201d<\/p>

The public support for the proposed changes has been overwhelming. Following a call put out by ABC Vancouver, over 60 community members came out to speak at the June 24th Park Board meeting in favour of the report.<\/p>

\u201cThe response to this proposal has been loud and clear,\u201d said Haer. \u201cSoutheast Vancouver wants to see these improvements and we\u2019re honoured to stand behind them.\u201d<\/p>

In the 2022 election, ABC Vancouver committed to addressing longtime underinvestment in neighbourhoods such as Southeast Vancouver. Today\u2019s decision marks ABC\u2019s latest step towards fixing those historic gaps.<\/p>

\u201cResidents in every Vancouver neighbourhood deserve access to world-class parks and recreational facilities,\u201d said Howard, \u201cABC is proud to be making good on our commitment to supporting traditionally underrepresented neighbourhoods.\u201d<\/p>

Vancouver City Council has already allocated $10M in funding to support improvements.<\/p>
