Yesterday, council approved a new mixed-use development on West 10th Ave. that will provide 571 rental units, with 20% below-market. They also approved a new rental building at Fraser St. & 29th Ave. and a new mass timber building that will be home to Ronald McDonald House with family-focused units to support sick kids. “ABC Vancouver has passed a transformative set of housing policies to address the housing shortage, provide diverse living options for families of all income levels and alleviate rising rent and home prices,” says Jaime Stein, ABC Vancouver candidate for city council. “Housing affordability is a massive challenge in Vancouver, but the ABC Vancouver team is making real progress – and we’re going to keep pushing to make our city a place where people can actually afford to call home,” says Ralph Kaisers, ABC Vancouver candidate for city council. ABC Vancouver has taken action to boost supply and reduce delays. The ambitious 3-3-3-1 Permit Approval Framework is eliminating backlogs, reducing red tape and cutting fees for affordable housing. The new framework has already sped up approvals for thousands of homes, cutting permitting times by 50-70% in many cases.  Last night, council approved a number of new measures designed to advance 3-3-3-1 permitting targets. Beyond permitting, the city has unlocked up to 75,000 new homes by updating view cones, allowing more multiplexes, adding density near transit and eliminating outdated parking minimums in key areas.
